Privacy policy
Last updated: 3 August 2026
Coast Cali is committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information openly and responsibly. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and disclose it, how we keep it secure, and the choices and rights you have. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
By using our website, making a purchase, or subscribing to our communications, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
What personal information we collect
We only collect personal information that we reasonably need to run our business and serve you. Depending on how you interact with us, this may include:
- Contact and identity details — your name, email address, phone number, billing address and shipping address.
- Order and transaction details — the products you buy, order history, and delivery information. Payments are processed by our payment providers (see "Payments" below); we do not store your full card number on our systems.
- Account and marketing details — if you subscribe to our newsletter or create an account, your email address and communication preferences.
- Website and device information — information collected automatically when you visit our site, such as your IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, and how you found us. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies (see "Cookies, analytics and advertising" below).
- Communications — the content of enquiries, reviews, or messages you send us.
We collect personal information directly from you in most cases. We may also receive information from our service providers (for example, our website, analytics and advertising platforms) when you interact with our site or ads.
We do not collect sensitive information (such as health information) and ask that you don't send it to us.
How we use your personal information
We use personal information to:
- process, fulfil and deliver your orders, and provide order updates and receipts;
- respond to your enquiries and provide customer support;
- send you newsletters, promotions and product updates where you have subscribed or where otherwise permitted by law (you can opt out at any time);
- operate, personalise and improve our website, products and services;
- measure the performance of our website and marketing, and show you relevant advertising; and
- meet our legal, tax and record-keeping obligations, and protect our legal rights.
Direct marketing
We only send marketing communications where you have opted in or where the law otherwise allows. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time by using that link or by emailing us at hello@coastcali.com.au. We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not provide it to third parties for their own marketing.
How we disclose your personal information
We share personal information only where necessary to run our business. This includes disclosure to:
- Our e-commerce platform (Shopify), which hosts our online store and processes order and customer data on our behalf;
- Payment providers (PayPal, Stripe and Square), which process your payments securely — they handle your payment details under their own privacy terms;
- Shipping and fulfilment providers, so we can deliver your orders;
- Email marketing and communications providers, which help us manage newsletters and customer messages;
- Analytics and advertising providers (including Google and Meta), which help us understand website usage and deliver and measure advertising; and
- Professional advisers, and regulatory or law enforcement bodies, where required or authorised by law, or to protect our rights, property or safety.
These providers are only permitted to use your information to perform services for us, except where a payment or advertising provider handles your information under its own terms.
Overseas disclosure
Coast Cali is based in Australia and sells to customers in Australia. However, some of the providers we use (including Shopify, our payment providers, and Google and Meta) store or process data on servers located outside Australia, including in the United States and other countries. Where your information is disclosed overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
Cookies, analytics and advertising
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to make the site work, remember your preferences, understand how the site is used, and deliver and measure advertising. We use analytics and advertising tools including Google and Meta products, which may set cookies and collect information about your activity on our site and across other sites.
You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings, and you can opt out of personalised advertising through the settings offered by Google (adssettings.google.com) and Meta (in your account's ad preferences). Disabling some cookies may affect how the website works.
How we keep your information secure
We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from loss, misuse, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Payment and account data is protected using encryption in transit, and we limit access to personal information to those who need it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
If we become aware of a data breach that is likely to result in serious harm, we will respond in line with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, including notifying affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) where required.
How long we keep your information
We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy, or for as long as we are required to keep it by law. For example, we retain order and transaction records for the period required under Australian tax and consumer law. When we no longer need your information, we take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it.
Accessing and correcting your information
You have the right to ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete. To make a request, email us at hello@coastcali.com.au. We will respond within a reasonable period and will let you know if we cannot action a request (for example, where we are legally required to keep certain records).
You can also update your communication preferences or unsubscribe from marketing at any time using the unsubscribe link in our emails.
Children's privacy
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.
Complaints
If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first at hello@coastcali.com.au and we will do our best to resolve it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or by calling 1300 363 992.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be posted on our website with the "Last updated" date above. If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to notify you, such as by email or a notice on our website.
